A Building Management System (BMS) is a computer-based control system installed in buildings that controls and monitors the building’s mechanical and electrical equipment such as ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and security systems. A BMS consists of software and hardware; the software program, usually configured in a hierarchical manner, can be proprietary, using such protocols as C-bus, Profibus and open standards such as DeviceNet, SOAP, XML, BACnet, LonWorks and Modbus.

Fire and smoke dampers are an integral part of air distribution systems and are critical links in the life safety systems associated with most buildings. In this webinar you will learn the common control methods for fire and smoke damper actuators and assemblies, dedicated and non-dedicated systems as well as application solutions from Belimo. For more information visit http://www.belimo.us/cms/sh/firesmoke/index.php
This video explains how to predict smoke behavior & how much time is available for occupants to escape from a building on fire. Then calculate whether the exit routes and smoke system are rightly designed to enable escape of all occupants. This is perfect example of using engineering simulations to save lives.
Two case studies that illustrate when fire design and management systems work well and when they fail.

Petronics is the leading manufacturer of fire alarm systems in New Zealand. This short video introduces key members of the team - including technical support, software and process engineers - and how they came to work in the electronic fire alarm industry. The process of designing a new product starts with looking at customer feedback and requirements, coding up the software and choosing and assembling electronic components. Once the design is complete, the engineers manage teams of electronics assemblers to manufacture the products. "I like my job because it's a strong mixture between creativity and logic. I lot of my day is about implementing ideas, or making ideas happen, so I'm not always sitting at my computer." Gordon, Process Engineer "I enjoy it because I get to learn a whole va...
